Madeleine

Hi I’m Maddy, and I am an ex-teacher and carer with over five years of experience in a variety of healthcare settings. I am looking forward to providing you with care and support that is tailored to you and your needs. I am experienced in delivering and supporting personal care, tailored to the needs of the individual and providing companionship and household support, including cleaning, food preparation and dog-walking. I am equally happy to support you in any of these capacities so please do get in touch if you want to have a chat or ask any questions whatever your particular circumstances. In my work as a carer, I have particularly valued that my role has enabled me to promote the independence, individuality and dignity of people with health conditions and disabilities. I grew up with a sibling with a serious and eventually terminal illness, and working in care has helped me to draw meaning and purpose from that very difficult experience. I understand that needing support can leave people feeling very vulnerable and I take my responsibility to promote your dignity and independence very seriously. I am an empathetic and compassionate person and I really value working in a role that allows me to help people live full and meaningful lives. My specific experience includes working as a healthcare support worker in a hospital setting. I worked as a member of a large, interdisciplinary team on a complex medicine ward as well as as a 1:1 support worker across a variety of wards and for patients with a range of conditions. In my 1:1 role, I supported patients with dementia, parkinsons and in stroke rehabilitation as well as patients with neurological conditions and injuries and both psychiatric and neuropsychiatric conditions. As a live-in carer, I’ve worked with elderly people with dementia and short-term memory loss, and, as a support worker in a residential care home, I again worked largely with elderly people with dementia, as well as supporting palliative and end-of-life care. I am returning to care after a break of about ten years during which time I worked as an English Language teacher and, for the past three years, a Civil Servant. I left my role at the Department for Work and Pensions several months ago to complete my studies in ‘Full-Stack Engineering’ and begin my freelance work. I now create web and mobile apps, as well as designing, coding and deploying websites for small businesses and sole-traders. While my ultimate goal is to make this my primary job, I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to work again in such a meaningful role and provide support to people in my local community. It’s also lovely to do this alongside the very different, and unfortunately much less sociable, work of writing computer code! Currently my schedule is pretty flexible and I am open to providing a range of support throughout the week including weekday, weekend and overnight care. Please note that my rates may vary depending on your needs and requirements, but I am happy to discuss on an individual basis.
