Susan
Hello, my name is Susan Conlon, and I am excited to join BS3 Community Care as a care and support professional.
I am from Ireland and have been living in the UK for over 12 years. My primary goal is to help elderly people stay connected to their community and wider society by providing companionship, supporting access to services and/or basic domestic help and support. I also like to facilitate the learning of new skills and abilities, where needed.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about my service. I look forward to hearing from you.
Skills, qualifications, experience:
I come from a background in research and education. While I am new to caring, I have worked with people of different age groups, nationalities, and economic backgrounds, listening to and aiming to understand their everyday needs and concerns. I completed training as part of my postgraduate degree in social research that helped me to develop empathy, respect for difference and the importance of listening. I would love to apply those skills to providing important support for the elderly, as well as share interesting stories and life experiences.
I volunteered with a charity called Acorn during the Covid 19 pandemic, helping with grocery shopping for vulnerable adults. I have experience living with an elderly parent and grandparents and am aware of some of the challenges they faced.
More about me:
I like to stay active and to swim, run and ride my bike when I can. I also play the wooden flute, sometimes joining folk sessions around Bristol. Over the last few years, I’ve been lucky enough to have a garden and an allotment to tend to and enjoy.
