Hello, my name is Syl and my background is in social care with specialism in learning difficulties and mental health.

I have lived and worked at the Sheiling School Thornbury (An Independent specialist SEN school and children’s home for children and young people aged 6-19 for many years. I have fulfilled diverse roles in the care and education of children and have vast experience both professionally and personally as my stepson (aged 34) has a rare genetic condition with severe anxiety, behaviour difficulties and Autism. I feel that I have a very good understanding of living with trauma and mental illness due to lived experience within my family.

I can provide a wide range of services to significantly enhance the quality of life for those I work with. Good relationships are my priority and the key . I offer companionship and emotional support, pastoral care, administrative support, household management, and specialised support for any learning difficulties and mental health issues. I am IT savvy :)

I would describe myself as sincere, calm, patient and compassionate. I have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. I am creative, practical and am spiritually striving. I am confident and adept in the use of IT. Lastly and importantly, I have a very good sense of humour!

Qualifications:

- NVQ Level 4 Health and Social Care (Children and Young people)

- NVQ Level 4 Health and Social -Registered Manager (Adults)

- Mental Health First Aider MHFA (Adults)

- Camphill training course (4 years) in Curative Education

The school I have worked for has now closed and I wish to find something new and fulfilling in which I can utilize my years of experience in doing something meaningful and worthwhile by meeting the needs of a person(s) who could benefit from my work with them.

I am happy to work with anyone and can offer to:

- Engage in meaningful conversations and activities that promote mental stimulation and emotional well-being.

- Provide a listening ear to help you navigate your feelings and challenges. And develop strategies/ tools to support your mental health, including coping mechanisms and stress reduction techniques.

- Provide spiritual and moral support tailored to your beliefs and needs.

- Assist in finding community resources or support groups that align with your spiritual or pastoral needs.

- Help with managing schedules, appointments, and correspondence as well as organising personal affairs.

Currently availability: Monday (pm) Tuesday(am), and Thursday(am) but may be able to be flexible......
