BS3 Carers Day - A celebration of Carers, Support, Self -care and Community

On February 26th, we made history with our first-ever BS3 Carers Day—a heart warming and empowering event dedicated to those who selflessly care for others. Hosted in partnership with Sirona care & health, the event brought together carers from across the South Bristol community, offering them a chance to connect, unwind, and access valuable support.

Caring for a loved one can be an all-consuming role, often leaving little time for self-care or social interaction. That’s why this day was designed to uplift, support, and celebrate carers, giving them the opportunity to share their experiences, seek advice, and enjoy some much-needed relaxation.

A Day of Connection and Care

Attendees were treated to a range of activities, including an indoor gardening workshop with Alive Activities, a joyful ‘singing for the brain’ session led by Alzheimer’s Society, and a gentle seated yoga class with Nicola of Lotus Yoga. Those in need of pure relaxation enjoyed hand massages provided by Cecilia of Opal Treatments.

For those seeking peer support, Carers Support Bristol hosted a private group session, allowing carers to share their experiences in a safe and understanding space.

And of course, no celebration is complete without good food! Thanks to generous donations from local baker 'Cakesmiths' and a local supermarket, guests indulged in delicious cakes and bakes, along with a free hot lunch provided by BS3 Community Café.

Strength in Community

This event was a powerful example of what can be achieved when a community comes together. From the generosity of local businesses to the talents of local freelancers, such as a photographer, massage therapist, and yoga instructor, our BS3 Carers Day truly showcased the power of partnership.

One carer summed up the day’s impact:

“This event showed just how beneficial it is to bring organisations together to support people who so often struggle to get out due to their caring responsibilities. It was a rare opportunity to feel seen, heard, and valued.”

Showcasing Innovation in Community Care

In addition to providing a day of rest and connection, BS3 Carers Day also served as a platform to showcase our growing innovative BS3 Community Care service. This initiative is designed to match local independent care professionals and personal assistants (PAs) with those in need within the local community. A key component of this service is offering crucial support for carers, including respite care, befriending, companionship, and other essential services, all provided by trusted local care professionals and PAs.

With the success of our first-ever BS3 Carers Day, we hope this will be just the beginning of many more initiatives and events that champion, support, and uplift carers in our community.
